When I first started with Stampin’ Up!, it was all about the scrapbooking. Each month I would create numerous pages and people would attend my classes. I would help with picture placement and everyone went home with completed pages. Yes, pictures attached. 14 years later, I still hold monthly scrapbook classes and although my style has changed, my passion has not. For my monthly scrapbook class this month, I chose pictures from our excursion to the Phi Phi Islands. The Stamping’ Up! Incentive Trip to Thailand was a trip of a life time and I have PLENTY of pictures to scrap but I am happy with my finished project.
Monthly Scrapbook Class:
Where do you start? I usually decide on pictures first. I go through them on my computer, select a bunch to be printed and then start grabbing supplies. Thailand was such a wonderful trip, picking one excursion was hard. The Phi Phi Islands were spectacular. I knew right away they would create the perfect keepsake. For classes, I try to do a double layout. People like to see a 2 page spread when they open their book. I have plenty of pictures to create several 2 page layouts. 🙂
Picking the Title:
I chose to use the Large Letter Framelits to create my title. I kept it simple, just by using the country. For class purposes, customers can easily switch the title to their vacation spot. I layered the letters with Basic Black for a shadow effect. Are you wondering about the Whisper White? Instead of using Designer Series Paper, I love showing you can create your own pattern paper and pick your colors to coordinate with your pictures. I cut my letters first then stamped (Lots of Love Stamp Set) before attaching them to the black card stock.
A few years ago, I was introduced to the Project Life concept. I never really switched over but I mimic the layouts from the page protectors. The page on the right, follows the patterns of Project Life. Pictures are all the same width (3 3/4″) but their lengths vary. I do not follow the pattern exactly, I modify to fit my pictures. Many find this way of scrapbook to be easier, because you know the exact size of your pictures and can fill in the empty space. My empty space, I chose to add my embellishments. Whether it’s stamped or pattern paper, each little piece ties the project together. I blend the two pages together by using the same stamped images and colors on both. The left page is more of a traditional style scrapbook page where the pictures overlap. I love mixing the two styles.
I chose A Whole Lot of Love Product Suite to embellish my pictures. The Whole Lot of Lovely Designer Series Paper is one of my favorites! I love the black paper with the floral prints but I also love the other patterns. Fortunately, I was able to showcase more than one pattern. Do you see the banners on the lover right corner? I created these with the Triple Banner Punch. When using this punch, a small tip, cut paper 1/2″ longer than you want. The punch trims approximately 1/2″ off at the bottom. The Lots of Love Stamp Set was used for all the stamping. The solid images from the stamp set fit nicely in the corner of the pictures There are no framelits for this set, so I did fussy cut all of the flowers. It was not hard at all!
No page is complete without embellishing! A little ribbon, a little pearl and maybe some embossed paper to give texture. What every you add, will enhance your pages. Did you notice the black striped ribbon? It was just released in the Holiday Catalog! At first I chose pattern paper but I am so happy I switched to the ribbon!
Overwhelmed with scrapbook?
If you are just starting to scrapbook, do not feel overwhelmed. Pick a subject, a birthday, a vacation, back to school, etc and start crafting. You will be pleasantly surprised how much you enjoy preserving your memories. I take A LOT of pictures and try to max out on each page. There is no wrong way to scrapbook. Let your creativity show on your pages.
