Summer, Just Breathe
At times my creativity hits a road block. Do you ever experience that? With many Stampin’ Up! products to choose from, I often ask my friends for help to inspire me. It could be a simple what is your favorite color or maybe what is your favorite stamp set. It’s a starting point for my creativity to take over. Today’s card was inspired by 2 things. I asked a friend her favorite color and when the answer was blue, it made me think of water at the beach, which of course reminds me of summer. Summer, Just Breathe is a quick card to create and send out to a friend.
Getting Started!
I didn’t specifically ask what shade of blue from my friend, I just needed the guidance of where to start. Pulling for the new Balmy Blue color I decided Crumb Cake was the next logical color representing a sand color. On the card, I stamped the Just Because from the Colorful Season Stamp Set in Early Espresso. The set has several greeting to coordinate with the seasonal images of leaves, snowflakes, flowers and a cute beach chair. The Seasonal Layers Thinlits, which is sold separately, compliments the stamp set by adding die cut elements to a project!
The Details:
After I cut my card stock including the watercolor card stock, I reached for my reinkers and Aqua Pen. Watercoloring is not always easy for me. I can easily shade the item too dark and have to start over. But with practice, I see I am improving. The watercolor card stock is cut 3 3/4″ x 5.” I stamped the sentiment along the side and waited a brief moment before I started to shade with the Aqua Painter. Adding some reinker to the lid of my ink pad, I grabbed some color on the brush and gently stroked the paper until I reached the desire shade. Then I repeated the step with Crumb Cake to make the beach look. A piece of the Wood Texture Designer Series Paper Stack was used for the chair and for the drink, a bright yellow shade. I did try the shading on the regular Whisper White card stock and you can see there are streak marks. It still works but I like the effect or softness of the watercolor card stock.
